So anyone who is an avid video game fan knows how complicated things can be in terms of finding the cheapest deals and keeping track of everything you have!! So I’m gonna just compile a neat list of resources that I use on an almost daily basis!
Backloggery is a wonderful website where you can compile a list of all your games and mark them as beaten, completed, unfinished, or mastered. It displays them all in easy-to-read lists and gives you visual representations of how many games you have beaten and such! It’s a great way to keep track of all the games you have, and it also really helps to motivate you to beat more games.
(EDIT: I’ve recently tried out another simple, yet helpful way to motivate yourself to play games and made a post here about it!)Also, it has a great community of people who are always just willing to talk about their games with you.
Raptr is a similar site, but works differently. It automatically connects to newer-gen consoles and records your play times for them, and ranks you based on how much time you’ve spent with them. It’s not horribly useful for consoles that are older than the Xbox 360, though. It does have a nice feature that allows you to join “communities” for specific games and participate in discussions and stay up-to-date with related news.
This website helps you to keep track of game prices and keeps you up-to-date on the latest deals. It’s wonderful for newer games, but it’s based solely on user input so there are a lot of missing entries. Otherwise, though, it’s nice to check if you want to keep track of price drops and such. Their twitter is good, too.
The Let’s Play Archive is a compendium of every completed Let’s Play on the Something Awful forums. Youtube has since become the most popular venue for the hobby of LP (even though SA pretty much started it), but it’s so disorganized and you have to wade through a lot of crap to get to the good stuff. LPArchive, though, is nicely organized, and you will most likely always find a good LP, as there is a lot of quality control on the forums.
I know it seems like a no-brainer, but seriously guys, Amazon has some AMAZING deals on games and it’s always my priority for when I buy games. Just be sure to read the descriptions of used games to make sure they’re in the condition you want.
Various cover art websites
Every now and then, you buy a game online and come to find that the seller apparently lacked the cover art for it. If you’re anything like me, you hate this shit. Well, a solution exists! This blog post is a tutorial on how to print out cover art in the correct dimensions, and these websites have the full art of most games available to download and print.
If you’re ever in need of quality video game merchandise, this is the website to check. It has very nice merch, and at good prices too. Plus, the customer service is really good; I received a damaged copy of the Mother 3 handbook in the mail, and when I informed them that I was planning on returning it, they just sent me a new copy without asking for the other copy back. They’re seriously awesome!!
That’s really all I have for now. If anyone feels free like adding something, then go right ahead.
